Vostok Inc is the world’s first twin stick action arcade clicker game. It comes from UK indie based studio Nosebleed Interactive. You may well remember them from PlayStation Plus instant game collection title, The Hungry Horde. Now on Switch, there lastest release tempts you into becoming dirty, rotten, filthy, stinking rich.
The premise is simple, make as much money as is humanly possible. To do this task you take control of a company boss. Instead of heading into the City, Wall Street or right clicking online to do your hard graft and dirty dealings, here you pilot a space and head far into the galaxy all in search of moolah. Here you’ll take on waves of alien eniemies that when destroyed earn you that moolah. Don’t think this is just a straightforward shoot’em up. There are bigger ways to earn and this is by visiting nearby planets in a bid to colonise them. By building structures that generate wealth, you earn a colossal amount of moolah, that in turn, automatically creates more. The longer you play, the more cash clicks in – simple. Visiting planets in the solar system is achieved by hovering over them and hitting the A button. This opens up a menu and here you can see what can be built to generate moolah. Mines, real estate, shopping malls, chemical plants and the like can be purchased, well if you have the dosh anyway. They unlock if you meet the given criteria so you’ll need to start off slow building your empire, then revisit each planet to scoop up your earnings. The handy pause menu lets you view each planet and displays how much each planet is making you.
Vostok Inc has a great 80’s aesthetic and some fine humour that makes this game stand out from anything you may have played before. On the Switch this is a great pick up and play game. The shooter elements are good too. You start with a feeble cannon fire that just about see’s you right. Once you have earned enough money this can be upgraded and other weapons can be added to your ship. Doing this is not cheap though, in fact you’ll need staggeringly large sums of moolah to get anywhere in Vostok Inc. As you venture further into the solar system it’s much of the same; colonize, earn moolah, shoot, repeat. Because of this it does become a tab grindy, but hats off to the developers in successfully mixing shooter element’s with the clicker style gameplay.
If you’re looking for something completely different on the Nintendo eStore then Vostok Inc fills that gap. Part shooter, park clicker…expect a wacky ride into the stars.
