While some gamers are happy reaching a story’s end, reaching the chequered flag first or becoming the Last Guardian, there are other gamers that go that bit further. If you want to know which is the hardest racer to Platinum, which impossible trophies are actually very doable or which game stopped a player’s fiancée ever looking at a console again, then meet the gamers who know…

Below we meet some trophy hunters from all aspects of the gaming world. Who better to kick things off though than the World’s Number 1 Trophy Hunter…HAKOOM.

HAKOOM  World’s No.1 and Bahrian’s No. 1   platinum 782

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

I have many hard trophies and plats. But my hardest trophy is Wingate Whacker from the game Gunsmoke (DLC from Capcom Arcade Cabinet). It even shows as the rarest trophy I’ve got from my 38k trophies, both from the official sony statistics and psntl.com.

My hardest plat on the other hand was Ninja Gaiden 3.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

Those LEGO games are very glitchy, especially Lego Hobbit. I would also include Assassin’s Creed – every part has more glitches.
Naughty Bear was awful too. Not sure what the 1 with the most was since I have played over 1200 games, but those above are the ones I remember clearly.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

I don’t usually give up on games because of difficulty, but I did with Skate 2 – not because of difficulty but because the game never worked as intended for me. Another issue would be leaving 1 or 2 trophies because they are just not worth the time. I have many games which I haven’t completed but I cant go back to them now, I just look forward to the new ones.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

I am very addicted to trophies, as soon as I see new games releasing I want to get them and finish them. I have no real explanation for this, but it’s like asking a smoker why do you smoke 😀 It just feels good, even when I get self hurt when playing garbage games, I rage, shout and scream. But when I earn that plat, it feels really good that it’s finally over!

What is the next Platinum you have on your list or that you are working on at the moment?

I am working on a lot of games:
Neptune U
Peggle 2
Diablo 3
Winning Eleven 2013 and 2014
And a few more VNs.

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

This is a tough one since I have done a few hard games. If I had to choose one it would have to be Star Ocean. Star Ocean is such a long game and it is not easy either due to the extreme amount of missable items with very small windows to get. Vanquish is a very close second for me. The challenges were very hard. I remember talking to Shoe478 and I thought he summed up the game perfectly. The game is very hard but not due to the game or controls. The game was very well done and your ability to platinum the game is on your gaming skills.

Challenge 4 still gives me nightmares thinking about it.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

Dark Void comes to mind. There are so many glitches in this game I wouldn’t even know where to start. I swear to god the last level took me 4-5 hours and I thought I was on an infinite loop because the scenery kept looking the same. I am still not sure how I beat the level to this day.

I just bought the DLC to the game to try and get 100% but it seems lag and glitches are present in the DLC. At least they are consistent.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

To this day, I have only given up on 2 platinums. They are White Knight Chronicles and Nail’d.

After doing Star Ocean, I lacked all motivation for another 1000 hour game so White Knight Chronicles is not getting done. Nail’d is probably not getting done due to being too hard. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I am literally 2-3 gold missions from finishing the campaign. On the first race, for some reason I cannot figure out, I cannot do better than 5th. Two trophies in the DLC are unattainable anyways so I gave up on the game.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

I enjoy playing a lot of different games. One of the things I love doing is writing trophy guides and that helps keep my motivation up. Helping others platinum a game always gives me a great feeling.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I have a few things on the plate, but the most current game I will be playing is Far Cry 4. Long-term, I am going to start playing Legasista and if it happens to line up, could end up being #800.

xLukk  World’s No.3 and Poland’s No.1  platinum 641

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

I would say getting 90 stars in Mirror’s Edge was quite hard. I remember my thumb and the pain for an entire week after finishing this DLC. Also Veteran in Call of Duty: World at War was not a joke either because of soldiers with backpacks full of grenades. Not so hard but frustrating was Dead Space 2 and having to finish it using 3 saves.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

The latest one – Saint’s Row IV – however I can blame myself a bit. I didn’t read carefully that I should save the game before the specific mission to avoid a potentially glithed trophy for getting all upgrades.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Unfortunately yes. I don’t start games like Ninja Gaiden, GT5, WipeOut etc. Some of them (like Wipeout) I’m planning to start someday in the future. They take too much time and some of them (like Ninja Gaiden), well… I’ll be honest I just don’t feel that I could plat it, I suppose I could not have enough skills for this game.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

I always liked video games and I still do. I was fascinated by them when I was a child, now I can see how they are being made as I’m a game tester in the polish mobile gamedev company (Vivid Games). I admit, sometimes when I get back from work I don’t feel like I could play any more. When it happens I sleep for about an hour and my strengths to continue playing games and trophy hunting come back. My main goal was to achieve level 100. Till that moment I put all my efforts to do it as quickly as I could. To be honest I’m starting to retire a bit from that moment. Not saying that I will stop playing but I have already made some decisions and I don’t feel so much pressure now.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

Too hard question for me as I usually get 2-3 per week. However the next, bigger one will be Far Cry 4. I bought it on its launch however still haven’t had time to even start it.

Cauchy-Schwarz  World’s No. 38  platinum 397

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

My hardest plat has to be 蝶の毒 華の鎖~大正艶恋異聞~. Pressing R1 for 22 minutes was brutal… All joking aside, it’s been a long time since I’ve played a really difficult game. That said, Wipeout HD, Street Fighter IV, and Mirror’s Edge are some of games that I recall having a really tough time with the trophies.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

The most glitchy game I’ve played in a positive way is easily Buzz Quiz TV, since the glitch allows you to essentially auto plat the game. It’s tough to say what the most negatively glitchy game I’ve played is since I’ve played some truly wretched games. If I had to chose, I’d pick Leisure Suit Larry with Damnation coming in a short second.

ave you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Not yet. I’m too neurotic.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

It’s really, really hard these days with work and family keeping me extremely busy. My daughter keeps me overly occupied. So, the only games I end up really getting to “play” are these fine JP novels that our amazing members are gracious enough to donate.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I have some JP novel coming in from Cap. But the next “real” game I have lined up has been for some time to stack Catherine. Like most of us, I have about 100 games backlogged. 😮

RED-REBEL44  World’s No.62  platinum 295

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

Had a lot of trouble with In Da Club from DJMAX TECHNIKA TUNE. I’m horrible at music games, so that’s one of the hardest things I had to do so far.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

Tough to pick just one, I’ve played a lot of crappy games. But GTA V recently crashed 5 times on me while I was going for the Waste Management trophy. Guess the ocean is too much for the PS4.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Yea, I have a lot of unfinished games. I easily get frustrated with games and end up moving on to something else.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

No idea lol Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

Working on GTA V right now. Up next is either Far Cry 4 or JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle.

Kb420mcl  World’s No.70  platinum 306

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

Hardest trophy I’ve earned is probably Legendary Ninja from Ninja Gaiden 3. Not only is it probably my hardest trophy but to make it worse it’s a dlc trophy.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

I wouldn’t say the game had a lot of glitches but Battlefield 4 on release for PS4. The game would constantly error out and make your save file corrupt.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

The only game would be Lost Planet 2.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

Just wanting to 100% all the games I play is my motivation.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I’m currently playing The Evil Within but my next plat will probably be the next Visual Novel I get.

Ballin404  World’s No.32  platinum 323

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

The trophy that gave me the most trouble are the License Test trophies in Gran Turismo 5. They are true test of patience and skill. Replaying the same test hundreds of times trying to shave off a tenth of second was torture.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

I hate to say it but I think Skyrim takes the cake here. I could only play for an hour or so until the game would freeze up on me. Not much worse then having to restart your system and sit through the load up process countless times.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

All the time. A few that come to mind are Killzone 2, Elite Difficulty is beyond my skill. Gran Turismo 5, Sebastian Vette Challenge was the plat killer for me. That car is just impossible for me to control. Some games that I gave up on for being to long of a grind include Warhawk, Battlefield Bad Company and F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. I make it a point now to avoid any games that have massive online grinds.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

Tough to say, but I’d guess it a combination of love of gaming and wanting to stay relevant on the leaderboards.

strong>What is the next Platinum you have on your list or that you are working on at the moment?

GTA V (PS4) The PS3 version was great and I’m looking forward to stacking it. I have grown addicted multiplayer in this game. Playing missions with random people always leads to organized chaos and I enjoy watching it unfold.

Kovish World’s No.5   platinum 581

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

The hardest plat is Guitar Hero Metallica. 5-6 years ago i was playing too much time GH3, GH World Tour and GH Metallica. I finished with Guitar Hero series after Metallica plat, lol.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

Fallout 3 and dlcs to this game. it was too glitchie.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

I gave up only on some games like FEAR 2, because online is 100 hours boost or on some dlcs trophies in games like Mirror’s Edge dlc, Dishonored dlcs because they are really too hard.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

About motivation – I play games and I have fun from this and fun when every new trophy popped. The trophy hunting for me is like collecting coins from different countries, or a collecting post marks – you want to earn more and more. The trophy hunting is a good hobby, but each trophy hunter must keep in mind that he shouldn’t forget about family, friends, his girl.

What is the next Platinum you have on your list or that you are working on at the moment?

I am playing MXGP – The Official Motocross Videogame PS4, and MotoGP14 Vita now, I think my 2 next plats will be in that games.

TheNukes  World’s No. 13  platinum 437

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

I believe Resistance 2 – The Killing Machine trophy for earning 10000 kills online is worth a mention. It definitely brings back a lot of memories, and not very good ones.

I always loved the Resistance franchise and the online was also lots of fun but I was never really good at the competitive part. I would classify myself as average at best which made the grind for this many kills borderline unbearable. It took many months of dedication to chip away with my subpar kill counts to finally earn the required amount. I hope to never repeat such a grind ever again.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

There is definitely a few worth mentioning but I think the most notorious was Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Unlike the rest this one actually prevented me from earning the platinum and there for will always reign supreme in my book.

This game had everything:
• Trophies that don’t unlock no matter what.
• Broken co-op servers.
• Broken collectibles and collectible tracking.
• Broken npc’s and terrible ai.
• All the other good stuff like freezes, falling thru floor, stuff falling from sky, disappearing vehicles, etc…

The amount of glitches in this game will give you nightmares. I pray to never see the Mercenaries franchise resurrected.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

While I don’t want to say I have truly given up on these I do have unfinished games that I would categorize as not worth my time at the moment. The couple games I speak of are from the early trophy days. Between the large amount of games constantly releasing across the 3 systems in the Playstation family and the always growing backlog it’s hard to find the time to go back for these when I can spend that time playing something new. I plan to re visit them in the future.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

I believe that moderation is key as well as setting realistic goals for yourself. Of course you must also continue to have fun, trophies should never be like a job or you stand to burn yourself out pretty quick.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

Up next will be Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Not a very difficult platinum from the looks of it but it will definitely be time consuming. Regardless, I’m sure it will be lots of fun like the previous games. It’s too bad they opted to release this on the ps3 instead of the next gen console but I would bet good money a port is in its future.

Pviddy   World’s No.97  platinum 282

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

I’d have to say my hardest trophy is Heroic Survivor in Killzone 2. That trophy is obtained by beating all the missions on Elite difficulty. While most missions were not that bad, the one that made me want to tear my hair out was the final mission on the bridge right before going to fight Radec and of course Radec himself. The bridge had so many grenades being thrown left and right it reminded me of Heart of the Reich on Veteran difficulty from Call Of Duty: World at War. Having to constantly remain in cover it took me about an hour to actually get through the bridge area if I remember correctly. Once I got to the final battle though, I was just trying to barrel through it. I kept running around during the second checkpoint using only my knife but every time I managed to get to the third checkpoint those damn grenade launcher enemies would always cause my demise. After a few hours of beating my head in, I finally managed to do it and was so proud of myself.

As for a hardest platinum I have a few of those in mind. One that sticks out though is Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. I chose that one for two reasons.

1. Having to complete the story on extreme difficulty was not pleasant at all. It was very cheap 99% of the time and the bullet accuracy was in the toilet. It didn’t take much for you to go down.

It was also THE GLITCHIEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED in my life. The online part of it was a total glitchfest. Hakoom, myself and a few others constantly had to quit out to the XMB, get kicked from the match for whatever reason or our systems would freeze up altogether. We finally figured out what would cause the freezing. If we had more than 6 people in a lobby it would lock up and we would have to all restart our PS3s… all the issues with the online really made me want to break the damn game.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Yes. There are many games on my profile that I have given up on, but I’ll eventually go back to them. My issue is there is always something better to play. I am a huge collector and own around 600 PS3/PS4/Vita games, so I always have a reason to drop one and start another. I am famous for always starting things and not finishing them LOL.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

If you look at my trophy profile on psnprofiles.com you’ll see my completion rate at about 75% now. It’s a big change from where I was at when I really got into trophy hunting. In the beginning I would always just put games on my profile and play them and then jump on to something else because I would get bored of it. I started at around 26% completion when I finally got into being a trophy whore (that’s what my wife calls me). Here I am about 4 years later about to hit the top 100 (on psnprofiles anyways). As long as there are trophies unearned I will strive to obtain them. Due to a back injury in 2011 I am no longer able to work, so I have plenty of free time on my hands for the hunt. As I said before I own around 600 games, but I have about 150 games that haven’t even been opened yet… so until I have a chance to play them all the hunt MUST go on.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I would like to try and make Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) my 300th platinum, but that could very well change. Right now i’m at 267 platinums, so I have 32 games to platinum before I make a final decision. Right now i’m working on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. I can only stomach that one little by little, I find it rather boring to be completely honest. The first Borderlands game was awesome, but it’s predecessors are just the same damn thing… A WHOLE LOT OF WALKING! I’m also working on the new Singstar (PS4), DriveClub (PS4) and Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor (PS4). Singstar is pretty much down to the grindy trophies, no turbo controller for the PS4 yet so I can’t autorun it this time around. DriveClub has yet to be patched so I can obtain the challenge trophies and I still have to reach max rank on that as well. Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor I have pretty much everything still to do. That is one of the games I started but really want to get back to because that game is amazing… in my opinion that game deserves Game Of The Year.

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

I had to check my list and with this knowledge I will go for:

A. Trophy. Swift Delivery

Kill 7 different enemy avatars in an 8-player Multiplayer match without being killed, where each of them is different than your avatar.

OMG of a trophy. One of my first games from PSN on ps3. Not the best game, with almost empty online and with trophy description where you have to kill 8 players and all of them must have different avatars (characters). I don’t know if someone was able to get this trophy without boosting it.

B. Platinum: Army of Two: 40th day. With King of the hill trophy. Glitchy? Not registering properly? I don’t know. I played and win on all maps like 3 times. Even called EA to ask for help. I drop this game for almost a year or so. I met a French guy who has a team with his brother and they were like 1st place in online rankings for a very long time. They ask me for help in boosting this for his friends and I said ok. In the third boosting session when I lost hope again the trophy popped and so the platinum.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

Glitchy but only annoying was Bloodbath for ps3. With this unique system of going back to XMB when game decided you need a break. But it was only annoying. Real pain in the butt was online part of Kane and Lynch 2 with well known trophy Alpha male. It was a real platinum breaker for many ppl.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

If you will look at my trophy profile you can tell that many games where to hard for me or not worth my time. But it is not like that. I m very determinate person. I forced myself to do Killzone 2 plat and 100% after 6 years from starting. My biggest problem is lack of time.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

I was very happy when I discovered trophies on ps3. I said to myself “Finally! I will finish a game and I will have a prove of that. Not only words” It was a big difference from ps2 for example. I finished Primal on ps2 on highest difficulty with all secrets etc, also both parts of Abe on ps1 and there was no proof of that. With ps3 it was different. Of course after a while it become a small addiction but as I m in gaming business since ZX Spectrum it was not so bad. Trophy leaderboards also played big part in motivation. Each day you can be better and higher.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I want my 300th plat to be Killzone 2. As mentioned above after like 6 years.

After that I want to increase my completion rate. I got many games to finish on ps3. Also want to plat all Cabelas games possible and also all Lego game ( a tribute to my little kid who loves lego games).

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

My hardest platinum to date is UFC 09, mainly because im not that good at fighting games.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

So far it must have been Bloodbath because it has frozen a lot on me.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Skate 2, i absolutely sucked at that game and I was happy to get past the 1 st events, I bought it because people said it was great and i played tony hawk in the days so i tought i could do it but i was never more wrong.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

I enjoy gaming so it just comes naturally.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.

Maxijodi   World’s No. 10  platinum 384

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

Many people will laugh out loud now but for me it was God Of War Ascension.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

Thats easy – Sniper – invisible, silent, deadly.

Because there are trophies where you have to play with two other players online and this is impossible. As soon as there are three players online one of them will be invisible und can’t make kills and can’t be killed. So I had to do this trohies on LAN with 3 TV’s, 3 PS3’s, 3 accounts and 3 game discs.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Hell yeah very often. I am not a kind of a 100% hunter. For example Injustice Gods Among us.

This one was to hard for me and not worth the time. But I am really a bad Beat em up player.

Even though I don’t have the patience to try things over and over again. For example some death mode levels in Sound Shapes. This really sucks to me. If such things happens I pull the game aside and play another game which makes fun no matter if it’s short or takes long.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

Oh this is difficult. It makes fun trying to stay on or near top of leaderbords and to hunt the one above you or to be hunted. Even it makes fun to take part of several contest with friends or on trophy sides.

Although it makes fun to play together with my son in koop modes, to meet people online and to share the same hobby.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

Oh there are many at the moment. Far Cry 4, Shadow Of Mordor PS3, Lego Batman 3, some JP games and more.

Shoe478  World’s No. 22  platinum 389

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

Vanquish comes to mind. It was one of those situations where you either do it or you don’t. You can’t grind it out, upgrade to a better level, memorize what is going to happen; you aren’t guaranteed to get the trophy ever. You have to study the game, see where you went wrong and try again. Each failure took 15-20 minutes and after failing, I didn’t feel like jumping back in to it so it took a little while.

When I finally did get the trophy, PS3 Jesus must’ve came down and touched my console because I was out of ammo and the last guy had a small amount of health. I finished him off with the slide kick thing. My heart was about to beat out of my chest and I was like, “Did I get it? Did I finally do it?”. In comparison, everything else I’ve done that is rare seems to be just big grinds really.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

I can only recall the most recent trophy glitch I’ve had and that is where I didn’t get the trophy for finishing the Challenge of the Gods in God of War 1 for the Vita. It wasn’t that bad but the next time I did it, it took me several hours to get that trophy.

Oh wait, I just remembered Nail’d. You need DLC to platinum that game and the DLC is glitched as well making it an unobtainable 100%. That may be the only unobtainable game on my list.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Short answer: No. Long answer: Noooooooooooooo. If it isn’t unobtainable or glitched, I plan on doing it…eventually.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

Honestly, I don’t always have the motivation. Last year I took a break for like 6 weeks and here recently, it was 2 months between my Apache: Air Assault (386) and my Midway Arcade Origins (387) platinums. Now that I have a PS4, I’ll be doing that easy/stacking/autopop stuff but right now, I’m just focusing on what I feel like playing. I’m not going to force myself to play stuff that I’m not interested in finishing.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I started EDF 2017 on the Vita and plan on it being #400. It’s an OK game to play on lunch breaks and it is a rare plat. I figured I could slow play it while peppering in the 12 other plats I need to hit that number.

Vanquish-Review

Whether you have 5 or 500 shiny Platinum’s, sometimes it’s about the journey you have with your own set of trophies. So next up, here are a few of P&L’s gamer friends talking about their experiences with trophies:

@BROzKlair88   platinum 90 (Including 17 PS4)

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

My hardest trophies are some of my proudest! I would say without doubt my Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Platinum. Collecting All Dogtags across all difficulties + 500 VR missions was tough! But i’m a big fan and got my reward. Special mention to Kingdom Hearts Gummi missions. They were hard as well!
What is the glitchiest game you have played?

I’m playing GTAV on PS4 and it’s pretty buggy! Online trophies have been a nightmare for me but i got em all eventually.I had to repeat the conditions for trophies multiple times over before it eventually unlocked.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

I don’t go for Platinum on a game if it wasn’t very good or not worth my time usually. Platinums to me represent how much i loved a game so no matter how hard the list or glitchy, if its a game i love i’ll never give up on that platinum. That hasnt failed me so far but i have put a few games i loved on hold with intention to come back to it. (ATM That’s Metal Gear 4).

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

My Motivation mainly comes from loving games, I feel i need to earn the platinum
on a game to show how much i love it, So as i long as i keep loving games, i’ll keep
platinuming them!

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

My backlog ATM on PS4 is GTA V, Evil Within, Plants v Zombies and Metro: Last light! My twitch is http://www.twitch.tv/klair88

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

My most difficult platinum to obtain was due to just the level of grinding necessary to get it, and in no way compares to some of the big named RPGs out there I try hard to avoid. It’s the first Disney Infinity.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

The glitchiest game I’ve played is easily… wait for it… Sound Shapes. It was one of the first PSN games to offer Cross-Buy AND Cloud Save AND legacy trophy popping. That meant that if you had platinumed (yes, that’s a word that means having already obtained the platinum trophy) Sound Shapes on Vita, then downloaded the game and respective Cloud Save onto PS3/PS4, once the save had a moment to orient itself trophies would start popping automatically. The glitch in this game was with DLC that I had newly purchased, installed, and didn’t need to play because it just game me those trophies too. Of course, I still played them though.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Oh hell yeah. Tomb Raider and Killzone Mercenary (of which I reviewed highly at PSNStores) comes to mind. Any game that REQUIRES me to grind an online mode I may have had little-to-no interest in playing from the moment I acquired the game is a hard platinum indeed. I came very close in Killzone Mercenary, but it was the online that killed me.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

New game releases keep me motivated. Vita keeps getting new awesome releases and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing so long as people know the future of all consumer video game distribution is surely going digital.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I’m overloaded with choices for which will be my next platinum. I’m heavily invested in Final Horizon on Vita. Tower Defense is usually not my thing, couldn’t get into PixelJunk Monsters in any form. Disney Infinity 2.0 is the #1 hill I’m climbing though.

My most enjoyable platinum was Tearaway.
A game I wish had trophies is easily LEGO Star Wars The Complete Saga.
My most griefed platinum is Hannah Montana.
The easiest platinum ever is Terminator Salvation. (Sound Shapes because of the Cross Save triple platinum)

Paul Murphy – Owner of The Vita Lounge    platinum 8

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

I’m not the best gamer in the world, so all of my platinums are quite shameful. Made up of LEGO titles and a few easy Vita games I guess the “hardest” would have been LEGO Marvel. In terms of actual hardest trophy, it’s probably between the Ace Valour card or 10x kill streak in Killzone Mercenary. Anyone who has played with me will know how hard that would have been!

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

I tend to avoid glitched games if I can help it, the frustration of a trophy not popping when it should would probably result
in my Vita being broken. FIFA FOOTBALL, with its unobtainable platinum and around the world trophy is probably the worst offender for me.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Given up on a game – I mentioned FIFA FOOTBALL above, but my trophy list is massively incomplete from games I either don’t have time for or it became too difficult. I don’t have the patience for 1000 headshots or 10,000 kills in Killzone, and anything that requires grinding or lots of replaying will result in me giving up.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

Trophies are one of my biggest gripes with current gaming, probably because of the effect it has on me. It seems that I need those shiny little extensions of ego, and that’s what keeps me going. I’ll buy easy games just to keep that rating grow and recently went over 20 days in a row popping trophies. The trade-off is that I tend to not play a game if there is nothing more I can add to my trophy count without putting silly hours

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

I’m incredibly close to FIFA 14, FIFA 15 as well as Tearaway as well as WRC 3 and WRC4. With a bit of effort I could probably get
PlayStation All-Stars and Frozen Synapse Prime. Hopefully by the end of 2015 my platinum list will look a little bit more respectable.

Sean Davis – Co Owner PSGamer   platinum 73

What is your hardest trophy and/or platinum?

My most difficult trophy was “All too easy…” for Sports Champions. To earn the trophy, the game challenges you to get -10 over an 18 hole course of Frisbee golf. The reason I found this so difficult was because, unlike most games where persistence and practice will eventually pay off, in a motion tracker game using PSMove it is almost impossible to get the same results twice. I loved Sports
Champions and the PSMove controller so I persisted and eventually got lucky with a bounce and got an Ace on a par 3 (the Frisbee ricoched off numerous trees until it went in the net). Most difficult Platinum was Call of Duty: World at War because of the grenade rain in the last 2 levels when set to Veteran.

What is the glitchiest game you have played?

LEGO Harry Potter 1-4. This game is actually the reason why my Fiancée doesn’t play games any more. There were numerous glitches which meant you could not unlock certain collectables and we restarted the game 3 times because of it. After many
long nights playing co-op, we finally unlocked anything – except the game only registered 99.99% completion. My fiancée was robbed of her first ever Platinum trophy and she has not played a full retail game since.

Have you ever given up on a game because the trophies were either too hard or not worth your time?

Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 and their multiplayer trophies. As much as I liked both games, getting 10,000 kills or being in the top 1% of players that week never seemed worth it.

How do you keep your motivation to continue trophy hunting?

In the past, I never really needed any motivation. If I played a game, I would do my best to unlock the elusive platinum trophy, no matter how long it took or how bad the game was. It was partly my OCD (seeing 98% of trophies earned in my list used to
send me insane) and the thrill of hearing that Platinum “pop”. A few years ago, when I started reviewing games with HeyUGuys gaming, Jill Sandwich and now PSGamer, I started to be a little more picky with the games I tried to Platinum. Because I am
always working to review embargos and often have to drop a game to review another, I pick my battles and only ever go back to the games that have really got their hooks into me. After a break playing something else for a review, I always feel remotivated.

What is the next platinum you have on your list or that you are working on?

As my kids have recently started to get into gaming, I have been picking through my “pile of shame” for those games that my mini-trophy-hunters and I can play together. This includes LEGO Hobbit, Minecraft, LEGO Ninjago and Book of Potions. Once they are in bed, I have been slowly plodding my way through Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on Veteran and trying to find a stable enough game session to finish off the co-op missions of Far Cry 3.
