We’ve had our fair share of scares on PS4, but here’s a more disturbing type of horror experience that’s coming soon.

12 March 1938. Renée, 16 years old, is ripped out of her world, locked up and deprived of everything. Her only fault was that she didn’t know what her place in the world was.

The Town of Light is a psychological thriller adventure told in the first person. The story is set in Italy in the first half of the 20th Century in a place which really existed and has been meticulously reconstructed. Exploring and interacting with the environment you will relive the history of the main character through her confused viewpoint and on the basis of your choices, the story will develop in different ways.

The game aims to explore what’s really happened inside those walls in the fictional eyes of Renèe’s, an imaginary 16 years old girl that suffers from mental illness. The adventure starts at present days, near the Asylum. Renèe’s voice will guides the player, which will try to find her forgotten and blurred memories through her eyes.

A live action trailer, featuring the heart-rending track ‘I Will Find You’ from Icelandic singer-songwriter Sóley, has just been released to highlight the story-driven game’s reality-grounded premise, lending further insight into the fictional story of Renée. Set in the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum – a former mental treatment facility based in Tuscany, Italy – The Town of Light is based on extensive research and inspired by first-hand accounts of the asylum’s patients. Check it out below.
