Baboon is a game in which you need to scale vertically to a finish line up in the sky whilst avoiding enemies and hazards. The twist is you can’t jump, so you need to Baboon Shake The Room by placing a bomb under your bum (a bumb?) and in the process launch yourself up to the next platform. Let’s cut to the chase. Is Baboon good? Yes. But prepare to go Planet of the Apesh*t because this game will drive you absolutely bananas.
You star as Tumbili, who has been living in Bananaville all his life, specifically in the usually peaceful Monkey Village. But stuff is kicking off, and your Grandpa needs your help. There is an evil Pirate Baboon, who with the help of his mysterious pistol, has somehow managed to make all the bananas bizarrely defy the laws of physics and float sporadically in the sky. Not only that, but he’s teamed up with the Beetnick Band (better than the Backstreet Boys I guess), who are also causing a whole load of chaos. Don’t worry though, coz to guide you through the mayhem are a whole host of interesting characters; ranging from biker chick’s to lizard’s to snakes. The dialog is genuinely funny and the gameplay, although hard, is definitely filed in the ‘one more go’ category of your Vita collection. Perfection is key however. If you make one mistake you’ll most likely fall right down to the bottom and have to start all again. But you can learn from your mistakes – it is Monkey See, Monkey Do after all. The bananas talked about earlier are not just 1 of your 5 a day in Bananaville. The more you collect, the more you can spend to better protect yourself in your ascendancy. Trust me, you’ll need them.
Challenging, humorous and addictive, Relevo Games have bestowed a classic formula upon the Vita. Baboon is the bomb, if you’re up for the challenge of course…
